Jamiroquai is one of those bands that I've learned so much from,
and especially from their first and great bassist - Stuart Zender.
His bass lines are always so funky and fun to listen and to play.
Also, there is a lot to learn from the synth bass lines, which in some songs were played by the late and great Toby Smith.

So here is my bass cover tribute to this fantastic band,

► Which Bass is it - 2008 Fender American Standard P-Bass
►What strings do you use - D'Addario Nickel Wound 45-105
►Tone/EQ - I usually go for 75-80% on the tone knob. For this video, the chain also went through Phoenix Audio Drs-1R preamp and Waves V Eq plugin - little boost at 180, 390,10k, some cut at 3.9k, HP at 47.
► Compression - Waves CLA-3A plugin. Gain at 4. Peak reduction at 4.

** Update: it has been brought to my attention that the bass player on the album version of "Space Cowboy" is Paul Powell and not Stuart Zender.
This is interesting, because that playing was so influential for me, and I had no idea it wasn't Zender's playing.
Without talking any respect from Zender's Amazing work, I think we should give credit for Powell's outstanding playing.

When many people talk about Jamiroquai, they think about Jay K but the entire band is amazing and cheers to Stuart Zender for many of these fantastic bass lines. Many of these basslines from Zender are the groovy reason many folks out there like these songs

But it doesn’t sound old. It sounds classic.

It’s like some 70s soul music never gets old.

The definition of classic is it never sounds old forever.

In this way, I prefer the early years of Jamiroquai.

Let's be honest: there are far more than 6 classic Jamiroquai basslines. That band is a goldmine when it comes to basslines, mainly due to Stuart Zender (Nick Fyffe and Paul Turner also have some nice ones). Aspiring bassists, learn Jamiroquai songs (particularly the first 4 albums, as Stu played on them). They're so fun to play.
