Big oof right there. My parents wern't very strict, but our general rule about grades was this: Strive for an A, but don't stress if it's a B, that's still pretty good! If it's a C, you're not in trouble, but we should look into solutions to help you get a better grade next time (like tutoring or something) However, if it's below a C, then we need to talk.

So, on those rare occasions when I did get a D or F, I was devastated because I felt like I let them down.
