TL;DR: He didn’t have a good game and was a defensive liability.

That Anderson goal is exactly why I think that Wright is not ready defensively, after the draw the defencemen jumped up near the blue line to cut off the winger (Slafkovsky), it’s a pretty standard thing but one of the absent key parts of this play is that the centre gets behind the defensemen, so the winger can’t recognize what’s happening and just chip it by you, for the Montreal Centre to take for two on one which is exactly what happened. if you watch it back Wright was definitely puck watching and didn’t know what to do for this play, which is a bit on the defencemen because he should know if the centre knows this plan or not, but also Wright should recognize that there’s only one person back and he’s the person that’s supposed to cover.

Obviously he’s not gonna be elite right away but he had so many Times where he just didn’t think where he needed to be and was out of position, there were A few scoring chances caused by him not knowing what to do or where to be. It comes with time, it also is a very natural trait you need to have instincts for. Which he was able to do against much lesser competition to an extent but even then he wasn’t amazing at it last year.
