The original Pulsar was Mattel's response to Kenner's Six Million Dollar Man figure.

Nice to see these off the card! I can verify that my Jim has normal eyes, so sadly you got a glitchy one. I hope this does well.

Love Major Matt Mason! Thanks to my dad I still have his original Major from the late 60s.

They really should have made them in the scale of the originals

I remember when photos of these leaked awhile back. It was speculated that they were some sort of internal Mattel giveaway.

The original bearded Big Jim was Big Josh

Interesting, 60s and 70s toys in an 80s style for collectors in the 2020s 😂

Thanks Dan. At least the mystery of when and how these will be available is finally solved. I first saw these in the Megomuseum forms. From what I understand from the NYTimes article Mattel is rolling out these IPs to see if they’ll gain any traction in the market. As an entry into the 5 POA collectible market it makes sense, at least to me. Price will be the deciding factor as to whether or not I buy them. If they can keep them in the $10-$15 range each ( $30-$45 for the set) I’ll get them
Anything more and I’m out

Pulsar was before my time but I remember seeing one when I was 7 and have wanted one ever since...kinda...

I played with Major Matt Mason figures & space vehicles back in the early 70's so WAS exceited to see MMM being revived by Mattel. HOWEVER I was quickly devastated to see he is a simple 5POA "generic" figure on steroids & looking like what Hasbro did to Star Wars with The Power of the Force line. So sad for me. I REALLY hope Mattel revist the MMM toy line properly soon, because NO ONE has made articulated 5 or 6 inch scale "space exploration" action figures for decades since the MMM ended.

Glad to see these, though *my* BIG JIM wore red speedos. I know they’re going more for the later “secret agent”/‘P.A.C.K.” iteration, but I always preferred the original college jock with the breakaway plastic board to karate chop. Maybe in Wave 2...

I love how the bodies are based on Secret Wars toy line, really nice pick for this size.

Hey Mattel how about back in action Battlestar Galactica?

This reminds of one of my favorite things they did in classics where they eluded to Fearless Photog and Queen Marlena having been part of Major Matt Mason's crew that somehow got lost and wound up on Eternia. Also this line needs a villain that also inspired a member of The Evil Horde: Enter Suckerman!!!

I agree with some posts here; this would have looked better in origins or 5.5 type body. How bout Captain Power, Bravestarr and Street Sharks in Origins body? They can call it Mattel Origins

If they are digging in they vault let's hope for a Bravestarr comeback!

If you use an exacto knife and cut the sidewalls of the blister pack on the right, left, and underside in a continuous cut, with the cut as close to the cardback but not cutting through the plastic that is glued to it, then the upper blister that is still connected, and a little bit of not cut plastic at the very top of the sides will be like a hinge and will also keep the blister close to the cardback so it looks like it is not opened.

These characters were before my time so I have no connection to them, but just by looking at the figures I think they could have done better. I understand the need to hit the right nostalgia marks, but they modernized the MOTU figures with Origins, they couldve done the same here. It's one of the things I wish McFarlane would have done to the Super Powers figures he's releasing. If not offering the action feature then add some articulation to the elbows, maybe a waist swivel, and a ball jointed head.

My first thought was "Origins?", but then I thought, "Nah, those packages look too thin... OH SNAP SECRET WARS" (okay, maybe not exactly those words, but yeah...)

But, does this mean Mattel has plans for this scale? Maybe a retro DC lineup? Possibly themed on one of the biggest event comics of the 1980s? THAT would be interesting.
