Lucas actually provided Spielberg with a dossier on how someone could survive a nuclear blast in a fridge. He was THAT determined to put the scene in the film. And the aliens.

Agreed. While it may have been entirely plausible that the lead in the fridge could have blocked radiation, you can't tell me that either: A. It would've been completely obliterated in the blast. B. Indy would've broken nearly every bone in his body (as shown in the video.) It did have a nice Ark reference though.

they actually referenced the fridge in fallout 4. the kid who hid inside became a ghoul. it doesn't protect you from radiation at all.
