Why are trick-or-treaters declining? I have some theories we'll talk about today.

What I noticed as an Arizonan: MASSIVE groups of non English speaking hispanics. Their children not even having been taught to say Trick or treat or thank you. These were not my neighbors - I always look forward to chatting with neighborhood parents as they bring their respectful kids to the door. Instead I had wildlings that I can't have a productive verbal exchange with, knocking over decorations, and offering no gratitude for the free goodies we invested a VERY hard earned $150 into. Will be keeping the light off next year. We're losing our country 😢

We used to live in Portland Oregon for 15 years. This is what I noticed. Most parents drive their kids to specific ‘rich’ neighborhoods to go trick or treating. It’s created a strange boom or bust scenario. The ‘good’ neighborhoods get literally hundreds and hundreds of kids, while the others get zero. I hated it. We used to always stay in our own hood. That’s how you create relationships with your neighbors, and meet one another. God forbid anyone actually speak to one another nowadays. It’s so depressing.

Had these 3 disrespectful-ass 18-19 year olds bang on my door. Im 26 and I just don’t get it. They weren’t dressed up, dude in the back was smoking a joint on my front porch with kids standing right behind him, and they didn’t even say “trick or treat” or THANK YOU as he held out his opened backpack gesturing for candy.
An obvious sign our society is collapsing, and yet people still act like everything’s okay.

Adults took Halloween over and made it as “edgy” as they could. It’s gay.

The amount of young girls dressed in barely any clothing was crazy! 13 year olds in mini skirts, bras and fishnets. Awful.

I live in a small conservative mining town. Most people here set up tables in their drive way and hand out candy. There are people who grill hot dogs and pass them out, the local churches host festivals with games, and almost every house gives away candy. We spent 150 dollars on Candy and gave it all away. The local PD hosted an event, for the middle school to high school kids, Hide From the Police. My 13 year and her friend participated and they had a blast. I’m glad that Halloween is still a big thing here. I’ve noticed as well how much the elderly people adore trick or treaters. My friend Rhonda and her sister are in their 70’s and it’s one of their favorite nights because they love seeing all the kids and giving them candy.

I absolutely loathe Trunk or Treat.

Gen Xer here. This is just ANOTHER example of what has caused me to use this familiar phrase over the last 10 years or so: "I'm so glad that I grew up when I did."

Fewer shared "cultural experiences, " generally, and zero expectation for today's immigrants to assimilate and "fit in." America's culture is dying!

Ok, I'm an immigrant recently turned citizen. Being a newconer to the country and with no kids traditional American holidays were a little bit distant and unfamiliar to me, even Christmas, because I was raised an Orthodox Christian and we celebrate Christmas in January. However, as the time went by and we started having kids, everything has changed and now we celebrate all American holidays and really love and appreciate them! To me this decline of Trick-or-treating spills over from the pandemic years when the majority of people were just leaving bowls of candy outside. Mind you, I live in Texas in one of the most conservative county. Anyhow, I guess with the inflation being so high and Covid madness we now see the results of this "wild" combo.

I know in the 70's, hardly any parents kept sugary treats in the house. It was a rare treat to get candy so being able to get a huge bag full was heavenly. I think kids today aren't as desperate for candy as we were.

I don't have kids, but I absolutely despise trunk or treating.

We used to just Trick Or Treat the streets in our own neighborhood, now you have SUV's full of kids being dropped off for "Free Candy Harvesting".

Kids dont do stuff outside in general anymore. When i was a kid, we were always outside. Todays kids stay at home glued to their TVs or smartphones, and their parents probably are too.

I've lived in a housing community for almost 10 years. There are townhouses and apartment buildings. It's the kind of place me and my friends loved to hit when I was a kid because you could get a ton of candy in a short amount of time. The most trick or treaters we've ever gotten since living here was 3. This year there was zero. Not a single kid. I always buy candy in hopes that there will be atleast a few but I think this will be the last time. I miss seeing the littles in their cute costumes. Sad.

What I noticed last night is a lot of houses had their lights off and majority of houses had bowls of candy on their porch. When i was a kid, hardly any houses just left a bowl out for kids to take one

Huge Indian population in my area. Now all the lights on houses are lit up for Diwali. The whole neighborhood. They take over all the parks throwing trash everywhere, taking selfies, no one speaking a word of English. I feel like an alien in my own country. I miss the USA of my childhood.
