I used this for our relocation to northern New Mexico.. and I am currently building 2 100% off grid cabins.. we left NJ and have been here since December 2019.. I thank God every day for giving me the intuition to get off the east coast.

Read your history about the early days of Florida before AC and Disney World. Florida was considered to be one of the most inhospitable places in North America.

Hey Cody, I think I speak for everyone when I say I think we would all love to see you revisit this in the world that's emerged since then.

Over twenty years ago I met people in Idaho who had escaped California, they were self sufficient types afraid of the enemy within rather than foreign enemies.

The state u choose, as any special forces vet will tell you, is your state of mind and controlling it. Stay focused and fluid to survive.

When you posted this video 7 years ago I joked in the comments that I was going to head to your place when SHTF; we're not coming for dinner Cody :) Thank you for all your hard work and consideration, god bless.

He did a similar book for the UK. It only had one page and the text comprised three words, "You are screwed!". :) Super book. It shows how even such a large area as the US isn't plain sailing in survival terms. Shame he didn't include Canada.

Wranglerstar, I happened upon one of your videos on where we might not want to be in areas where there is larger population density. And right now we have been hit with a virus that has shutdown many people who might want to locate to better state with less in big highways until this virus threat stops spreading. I have already started my plans on leaving the state of California. Since most of my family live in Nevada this is hopefully where I am going make my move. Totally off grid. God willing. Be blessed with your family.

Good subject! My fiance' and I are about to relocate back to my homestate of WA. One thing I have been giving a lot of consideration not mentioned about this book is climate change. As a field biologist and permaculture designer I've been documenting many of the changes this is having. Reliable water and resilient ecology are getting to be more important. 5 factors have lead me to believe the west coast from, Northern CA to Southern Alaska, will ride out intensifying climate swings better than the rest of the continent. First, mediterainean climate. This means reliably wet winter and dry summers. Most continents have one coastline like this. The ecology is already used to wide annual swings in climate and is more resilient as a rule. Places like the mid-west or back-east that are used to rain every few weeks are going to fail when it doesn't rain for 3 months, which is normal here. Second, trees, all of the worlds largest and oldest trees live in the mediterainean climates. Thousands years old beings living in your area infers some degree of stability. Third, between the ocean and a mountain range. This should guarantee winter moisture as clouds from the ocean must drop some precip. as they are forced over a range. Fourth, all the worlds successful settlements have settled somewhere where they have had multiple ecology's to draw on. In this case, the Pacific Ocean and many rivers (fishing, salt, temp. stability, etc.), numerous mountain ranges (hunting, water, forest, etc.), and the bottom land in between (farming, pasture, etc.). Park yourself above Tsunami line, build a quake resistant home, and learn methods for storing water on your landscape through the dry summers and you should do pretty well for yourself. Fifth, anywhere along this zone will still be quit habitable if it swings colder or hotter. If you're in the tropics and it gets hotter, or the cold regions and it gets colder, then you are SOL. If WA get to be more like northern CA or Northern BC, I'm still going to be doing pretty well.

There is a new 2020 update of this book. I donated some cash toward it for my library to buy it.

This is AWESOME Cory!! Perfect time for me to see this video! My Girlfriend and I have been doing research ourselves to find the same info that's in this book.. Boy, does this make doing research for our NEW place a ton easier.. LOL I found your YouTube channel a few months ago or so and it has been a REAL God send for me.. WE don't and WON'T have cable TV ($80+ a month) so we use an Antenna so I watch your channel and a couple of others during the day instead of TV. Anyways, God Bless you and the W Family.. Peace..

At this point, I wouldn't tell anybody how wonderful it is where we relocated. Really--there's nothing to see here. Keep driving!
