In contrast to his older brother Hermann Göring, who steadily climbed the National Socialist career ladder and eventually became one of the most powerful men under Hitler, Albert despised the National Socialists and their brutality. He did not join the NSDAP and demonstratively took Austrian citizenship in protest against the National Socialist regime. According to Albert Benpassat, after the “Anschluss of Austria” in March 1938, he showed solidarity with Jewish fellow citizens who were publicly humiliated and abused by the SS in Vienna. Benpassat reports a scene in which Albert Göring did the same to a group of Jews who were forced by SS men to scrub the street on all fours during a “rubbing party” and helped them scrub. The SS officer on duty then ordered them to stop scrubbing because he did not want to be responsible for the public humiliation of Hermann Göring's brother.

Albert Göring used his influence to free his Jewish boss at Tobis-Sascha Filmindustrie AG, Oskar Pilzer, after he had been arrested. He also helped him to flee Germany. It is reported that he also did this for many others, including politically persecuted people such as Kurt Schuschnigg. Göring also stood up for Franz Lehár's Jewish wife and Henny Porten's Jewish husband.

Göring intensified his activities against the National Socialists when he became head of exports at the Škoda works in Pilsen. He repeatedly used his contacts with the regime to protect members of the Škoda workforce. Here he supported minor acts of sabotage and maintained contacts with the Czech resistance. In many cases, he forged his brother's signature in order to sign travel documents for the escape of dissidents, or he used the Göring family's stationery to release people from prison. As a result, his brother Hermann had to intercede for Albert several times to prevent him from being taken into Gestapo custody. Albert Göring also sent trucks to concentration camps with requests for workers. These trucks then stopped in remote areas to allow the workers to escape. Every offense committed by Albert Göring between 1938 and 1945 was recorded by the Gestapo, and everything was also documented by the Škoda factories. This was decisive for his release and denazification after the war.
