It’s no different than private security, private doctors or private trainers… we would all do this if we could afford it.

If a person wants to pay for firefighters thats perfectly ok. If i lived there and had the money i would absolutely hire them.

Like you wouldn't do it if you could afford it. No need to get angry about it.

You have to be extremely ignorant to be against private firefighters being hired by individuals. Can`t you think that this man will save his house that way which also stop the fire spreading to your house down the road ?

I'm not outraged. If they can afford it, they should.

So… I understand not all of us can afford those types of services but I don’t really see it as any different than hiring other services when we need or choose to use them.

I do not see anything wrong with this. Private firefighters have been around for decades. The private firefighters are written into the homeowner's insurance contracts by the insurance companies for multi million $ homes to prevent expensive payouts and thus prevent them. The homeowners insurance for a $10 mil $ home starts at $30k per year. So yes, it is fair. Life can have disparities but life is fair. I don't feel it's unfair. They can afford the finer things in life. Nothing is free. If you think it's unfair, do something about it. Get a degree, start a business, make more money

Former VFD here. They can't bring in that much water before they need to use a local supply.

Why are people outraged at hiring private firefighters?

Most of them are hired by insurance companies to protect their assets. This has nothing to do with helping people, and everything to do with profit margins

Disgusting All fire fighters should be fighting the fires not just for the rich.

Where's LA private fire departments? They could have been cutting away the flammable brush and tumble weeds and waiting in the nearby wind and brush areas and then easily put the fire out with a reservoir full of water?

Makes you wonder why we don't emphasize a "First Preventer" approach to our surroundings so we don't over burden our First Responders so much when a situation does arise.

It doesn't upset me that some people do this. What I don't understand is why someone would want to re-build after the fire has ended. The entire area has to be re-built all at the same time. Otherwise you will be living with a wasteland all around you. That would be depressing. On the other hand, if it's not re-built all at once, what value will the land lots have? Saving your home is more than just saving your home, it's about saving all the things inside your home. But that's a different issue. I can't really see re-building on a piece-meal basis. it would have to happen on an all-at-once basis.

Are contracted firefighters considered hero’s?

Outrage, but if you had the money you'd do it to.

France and California similar economic power.
France maintains 250 000 professional fire fighters trained in 6 000 intervention centers.
California has 5 000 fire fighters.
50 times less.
France maintains more than 40 large aeronefs speciallized in fire fighting. 12 Canadairs C425, 35 helicopters, , 10 trained pilots per plane, capable of scooping water in a mountain lake with a large air plane, maintenance crews readfy 24 hour.
Californta does not even have 1 Canadair.
Canadairs lent by Canada, one is already out of duty because of collision with a drone.

Vote in a government that should have that cover. But still need to bring in outside help.
