While EMD was dominating the locomotive market, and GE was just starting out, 4 other locomotive builders were also contributing there own locomotives to North America. The original and historical ALCO and Baldwin, the marine-engine building Fairbanks-Morse, and the iconic yet short-lived Lima Hamilton. Each of these builders had there varying degrees of success, and own ways of leaving the industry. While we have ALCOs and Baldwins running on shortlines, few Fairbanks Morse's intact, and only a few Lima-Hamilton Diesel's left, they each have proven there mark on the North American rail network.

Welp, the third (or fourth) installment of the "10 Words or Less" that y'all have been waiting for. This time, were covering not 1, not 2, but four diesel locomotive builders that were alongside EMD and the new GE.

From railcars to switchers, cab units to mainline freighters, one-off's to prototypes, we cover them here!!!

Music used:

Song for America - Kansas
ABBA - Mama Mia
Duke Ellington - "Take the A Train"
Les Baxter - "April in Portugal"
Stan Kenton - "Eager Beaver"
Les Brown - "Leap Frog"

Its comes to my attention that i forgot to mention the RS-11 in this video. It was pointed out by some viewers when looking through the comments. I do apologize that i forgot to cover that locomotive, it slipped through my mind when editing and writing this video, and i didn't realize it until now. I did make a video with my opinion's on it here in the link provided. Again i do apologize deeply for this mistake.

"Build for the Rockies, Died in Mexico".

Yep, that sums it up perfectly.

Great installment in the series! You always manage to introduce a few engines that I didn't know existed with these 10 words videos, which seems to be the leading trend for narrated train related video topics. Keep up the innovative work!

Imagine if F. M made it's return to the locomotive market, it would be interesting to see how EMD and GE would react.

Great video. You missed a couple early Baldwins though. They partnered with Westinghouse for some early engines which were bought by Armco Steel. One was a boxcab, another a center cab, while 2 others had Westinghouse’s “visibility cab”.

The RF-16 Is SO nostalgic for me. It just seems like a friend-shaped locomotive. And when somebody tells me about the PRR this locomotive is the first thing a think of the Awesome livery.

As always, this is quite a funny video! The "born in the Rockies, killed in Mexico" sentence was funny, as was the laughter coming out of that weird Reading 60 (whose frame doesn't seem to fit its carbody).

Thanks for the video!

You did a great job creating an encyclopedic video of switching locomotives that can help me learn about the locomotive classes that existed.

I like the appearance of the Alco DL-109 diesels, and I especially like the Alco FA/B & PA/B diesels.

I think separate videos would be better for the electric/EMU topics! Also, I have a special request to quickly cover the Morrison–Knudsen (MK Rail) MK5000C, the locomotive that kick-started the 5, 000+ hp wars of the 90s, and maybe TE70-4S (a rebuilt U25B but the only carry-overs were the trucks, traction motors, frame, main generator, cab and nose)!
