Dio painted pictures with his voice and took you to places you only "dreamed" of. He had a way of immersing himself in a song, even if the lyrics were not his. Another prime example are the two songs he recorded with Kerry Livgren, "Mask Of The Great Deceiver" and "To Live For The King." Ronnie was certainly not a born again Christian, but listen to those songs and tell me he doesn't have you convinced! The world is a much darker place without Ronnie James Dio. BTW, Malmsteen's guitar work on the Dio version of "Dream On" only makes the song that much more powerful. One of the best covers I've ever heard.

It's not just the vocal on Dio's version, it's the fleshed out musical chops on the record. The version featuring Yngwie is just epic and probably what the song needed!

I still think Tyler was better, the dream on part at the end where he goes higher and higher is the penekle of the song. And Dio doesn't even try the high part. It's good, but not as epic. IMO.

Dio put something so personal in it... Only his version makes me crying. I don't know why but it works. There's something heartbreaking in his intonations.

As much as I love Ronnie… I can not say it’s better, where was the reaching of powerful high notes, no upper register at all..
I’m going to say it was Ronnie’s age, perhaps…
It was not as emotional at all

Steven Tyler is the best rock singer that I have ever heard. Dio gets pretty boring quickly.
