You've seen Missingno, you've seen Kabutops skeleton, but have you ever seen a Trainer on the coast of Cinnabar? How did this happen? Why does he have an even bigger, scarier Missingno? Are Missingno trainers some secret class of trainer? And most importantly, what in the hell happened to the music?!?

Q: Where can I find that 'did you know gaming' video?

Q: At 1:00 you mention the Pocket Monster Encylopedia... have you read it? Do you own it?
A: Nah, it's *very* rare and very expensive. Do You Know Gaming has a copy, and apparently they got it translated by the original translator who localized the first Pokemon, but as far as I'm aware, they've never shared it. (I hope they do someday though. It would be an amazing read).

Q: Wait, how do I catch mew?!?! You never actually explained!

Q: Wait, if the coast only has like, 5ish missingnos, where are all the others?!
A: See that Mew glitch, right above this question? You can use that to summon other, more exotic missingnos. Some of these are very dangerous, but some are also very fun. I'm particularly fond of the missingno summoned with a special of 192.

Q: Bad Eggs, what?
A: There's a glitch in Gen 2 called the Celebi Egg Glitch. It requires a Bad Clone which is obtained via turning off the power while the game is saving so that you can obtain a pokemon that's missing some of it's data.

This "bad clone" can then alter the data of unhatched eggs through a very elaborate series of steps.

Q: Wait, I'm confused, what does this have to do with Missingno?
A: Oh yeah, so, when you trade with Gen 1 games in Gen 2, you enter something called the "Time Capsule." This Time Machine is supposed to have checks that prevent you from trading Gen 2 pokemon to Gen 1, which would cause a paradox, since Gen 2 pokemon haven't been invented yet.

Bad Clones confuse the time machine, so it stops accurately performing that check, allowing you to send Gen 2 pokemon over to Gen 1.

Q: I wanna go Missingno hunting!!!! Where can I start?
A: I recommend either Bulbapedia or Glitch City's Wiki.

Q: Wait, did I just hear another voice on Spamton?

Q: Who did that EPIC opening song?

Q: Why are you printing all your pokemon from Pokemon Yellow? Do you not own a copy of Pokemon Crystal?
A: I do... but the battery died *just* as I was about to do that. I know how to change the battery of course, but cracking open a gameboy game takes a while, and I don't have the time for it, (yet!).

Q: I want to join your Patreon and print off those sweet Missingnos, but I can't find your Patreon!

... wait did I forget the hashtag? Darn it me!

FAQ!
Q: 7:13 "chief" isn't a culturally appropriated term! Why you do this?!
A: Oh geeze I messed that one up hard. Uh oh! Bad research = bad!

Okay so how did this happen? Well basically I only asked 2 questions before doing that part of the video, first "why is the word 'chief' in my Japanese localization? and 2 "will people get mad if I use the word 'chief' a lot?"

The first part was "Japan adopted it from us." So that's easy enough, but for the second part the only thing I read was this article right here:

And an article about how "chief" was being removed from business terminology in some settings.

For some reason while editing, my tired brain must have jumbled the info up and drawn the wrong conclusion.

However! The word "chief", while being reserved for Indian/Native American use, is actually European in origin! Specifically in the Gradual Enfranchisement Act in Canada, "Chief" was established as a legal term to specify which Native American leaders within tribes would be responsible for managing certain duties on the reservations and such.

So! That word isn't cultural appropriation, but is apparently still not cool to sling around willy-nilly. I.... definitely should have looked into that further before trying to report on it though. That's on me for doing insufficient research. Sorry about that, I done goofed!

Oopsie doopsie!!!

Q: Wait, how do I catch mew?!?! You never actually explained!

If you're super far in the future, and that link is down but this video is up (???) the steps are:

1. Find a trainer facing up. (the gambler near lavender town, or the trainer near the top of nugget bridge both work).
2. Stand above them, just out of their sight and save the game.
3. Take one step down, into their line of sight and as you do, quickly press START to open the menu.
4. Fly or Teleport away
5. Find a *different* trainer on a different Route to walk toward you. For Mew I recommend the swimmer in Misty's gym.
6. (OPTIONAL) fight a ditto and have it use TRANSFORM on your pokemon. It will copy your Special stat, which will determine the pokemon you get when you return to the trainer you fled from. *do not fight any other pokemon/trainers after the ditto* For MEW you need a pokemon with a special stat of exactly 21.
7. Return to the area you initially fled from and the start menu should open automatically. Close it and catch the pokemon that appears. (If it wasn't a MEW, you either fought the wrong trainer, or had the wrong special).

Bad Clones confuse the time machine, so it stops accurately performing that check, allowing you to send Gen 2 pokemon over to Gen 1.

Since Missingnos are what happens when the game tries to read pokemon data from a non-pokemon slot, Gen 2 pokemon cause it to read from that corresponding slots. So for example, Kabutops missingno is hex B6. The pokemon in hex B6 for Gen2 is pupitar, so if you trade a pupitar to gen 1, it will be a Kabutop Fossil Missingno.

Thus, if a pokemon cannot be caught because encountering it will freeze your game, the Time Capsule glitch becomes one of the only remaining work arounds without a hacking device.

Q: I wanna go Missingno hunting!!!! Where can I start?
A: I recommend either bulbapedia or Glitch City's Wiki.

Q: Wait, did I just hear another voice on Spamton?
A: That would be Gibby. I didn't even commission them that time, they just... gave me free Spamton audio?
Oops!!

Q: Will you print me a pokemon?
A: Chaos Tiers get a free pokemon-print as their Chaos Physical Commission. So sure!

Q: What if I don't want to be Chaos Tier?
A: I mean... I guess if there's a strong demand for it, I could open some sort of commission system. In the meantime, if you're Determined enough, gimme a poke on Discord, and we'll discuss.

Q: I want to join your Patreon and print off those sweet Missingnos, but I can't find your Patreon!

Q: Pronouns?
A: They/them

Q: Why are your family random monsters?
A: I picked the characters from the game that make the most sense and/or they identify with. Don't think about it too hard.

Dude, your description of MISSINGNO. as this ancient eldritch being you must commune with and master in order to gain infinite power was _legendary._ I'd love a glitchdex video.

your demon analogy works really well since you did do ONE thing wrong in the ritual and summoned another demon which you were terrified of because you didn't have the proper means of dealing with it

Despite not being a huge fan of the Pokémon series, I would definitely enjoy more coverage of the glitch Pokémon in the games!

One of the most interesting facts (at least to me) is that the Glitch Pokemon change between Red/Blue and Yellow. Like, it's a completely different set between the two because the data changed so drastically between those versions. I could like, nerd out in this comment all day, these types of old school Glitches are very interesting to me, I'd love to see more videos like this one.

Y'know, I've watched your videos for a while now, and with every new one you release, I'm continually amazed at how personal your delivery is. Text-to-Speech or no, it always resonates with me, and watching this video really made me realize the reason why. The time of playground rumors and arcade talk; that's what you remind me of. Like a friend who's just genuinely excited and curious about their discoveries. So keep being you, dude. No matter what you decide to cover, it's genuinely great.

actually due to the gen 1 prototype leak, we now know that the Chief was supposed to use what we now know as Blaine's design. Blaine had the sprite of a partially bald army guy doing a salute, and this design can still be seen in the game's manual, his concept art and was also reworked into his anime appearance. I guess game freak figured it would be boring to have two gym leaders be army dudes and decided to repurpose the chief's sprite. if you ever read the manual as a kid and wondered why blaine looked different from his sprite then that's why

Never knew that the Mew Truck Rumour originally started as a ‘broken telephone’ version of the actual Mew glitches

I really like this video style of mixing personal experiences with researched information! Keep it up :)

I didn't think listening to someone talk about missingno in current year could be entertaining, but this felt somewhat fresh.

I remember when I was a kid and YouTube was a very different place, I found a video of Missingno. being encountered in Red and Blue. It completely boggled my mind. To that point I'd never even considered the possibility of glitch Pokémon. I remember trying a bunch of ridiculous fake guides to try and catch Missingno. myself in FireRed, and of course they didn't work. I ended up learning about all sorts of glitches, and found them super interesting. Not only that, but I was lucky enough to encounter and catch a shiny Pidgey and get Pokérus in Sapphire. All these things really made the Pokémon world seem to have endless possibilities to me back then. Now I've learned all about many of the different glitches and glitch Pokémon throughout the generations. Each of them have really interesting and unique effects. In Generation 3 alone, there's over 65 thousand unique glitch Pokémon, although they all look the same. That's more Pokémon then anyone could ever experience and document in their lifetime. Undertale's lore really gets my mind going just like it did when I was a child, and I think that's really cool.

calling them missingnos is a bit of a misnomer. they're plain glitch pokemon.
there's currently an investigation on how "4 4"'s true cry is made, if you wanna try your hand

Even as a diehard pokemon fan, a diehard glitch and creepypasta fan, I never knew about all the weird distinct properties of alternate missingno's, or that story about the deliberate hiding of mew. And that description what missingno is such a fun take that I'm astonished I'd never heard before. I would LOVE a video cataloguing all the weird missingno types

I know this isn't your usual content but I absolutely loved this video. When I was younger, I went through a phase where I was absolutely fascinated with Missingno, M, and the other fascinating glitches in the original Pokemon games. I was also terrified of them. This video made me incredibly nostalgic. Thanks for the walk down memory lane.

Hearing about a cool Pokemon glitch, trying it out and finding a bunch of horrific meshes of sprites and text along the cinnabar coast is very creepypasta-esque and probably the closest we'll ever get to a real creepypasta

I really enjoy that you decide to use text to speech and actually take your time to make sure its understandable and has normal cadence and pronunciation unlike those reddit TTS videos. I prefer it way more than silence because I can actually do something else, and I like the Pokemon content. Nice work!
