Hey Hektor, I like the video but the section on not using new bolts is unsafe. The way ford torqued these bolts permanently reduced their strength when they are removed. They are permanently stretched and when torqued again, will weaken and may break off in the threads, making a really big problem. The customer wont know but this isn’t good and definitely not meeting standard for the work that it looks like the customer asked for.

The bolts are torque to yield, they need to be replaced when removed as they are now stretched.

To replace axle seals (thin rubber ring Dorman 926-129 & big axle seal Motorcraft BRS-180):
0. Have oil pan ready
1. Remove axle and inspect place where bearings are running (rubber ring seal is located on axle)
2. Unscrew axle lock nut from the hub with special remover or flat screwdriver. (Left side has left thread, right side has right thread)
3. Remove, clean and inspect outer bearing CK4Z-1240-A (usually doesn't need to be replaced, available in any store)
4. Remove and clean hub body
5. Remove old bearing from the hub body with flat screwdriver and a hammer. You may need to remove brake dust shield in case bearing stuck on axle housing and pry seal off with flat screwdriver. Be very careful with dust shield bolts - they are very weak and break easily.
6. Inspect both bearing races (usually doesn't need to be replaced, available in any store)
7. Remove and inspect inner bearing BC3Z-1244-A (usually doesn't need to be replaced, available in any store)

P.S.
1. Make sure axle lock nut is tight! Put brake rotor back on and screw bolts without axle in. Hit those bolts with hammer in cross sequence and check if axle lock nut got loose. Tight it again and repeat until everything is tight, but wheel is still turning easy.
2. Make sure you have enough differential fluid after done. Better replace diff fluid (Motorcraft is cheap, use 75W85) if you have over 100k already or you have a diff cover leak.
3. It took 9 hours with impact wrench to replace all 4 seals, brake pads and rotors. I broke 2 out of 3 dust shield screws without any effort and couldn't get them out.
4. You definitely need impact wrench. Electric wrench cost only $65 on Amazon with the set of sockets and case and works perfect!

Thanks for showing that. I wasnt expecting that I need to pop the axle out for a brake job on my van! Very simple though.

Damn. At first glance I was about to open the diff to remove a pin. Thanks for saving me from making a mess

Hello Hectorrr.
The bolts are T.T.Y., need to be Replaced !
Realy, any one else reading, Watch out.
I thought same bout Ford bolts n keeping them(thats how iv e done all my diff. Cars brakes) But some on Ford Transit forum had problems. T.T.Y. stands for torque to yeild, they stretch n are one time use.
People, You Hector, n Me Too, we need research this.
Dont understand why Ford did this but...
It is a Safety issue.

Great video, but the rotors NEVER let go that easy or turn up on that raised area, here in NY. I negotiate them off with a 4 lb hammer. Back it off of the raised section of the hub, turn it and then hammer it forward. Also I needed a breaker bar to break loose the 15mm bolts. My 2 cordless impacts would not move them. I need a nap after doing these. Where there is corrosion, that rotor will take some serious hits to move.

Hey Hector great video I just had my transit brakes done and afterword both calipers locked up any idea why doesn’t seem right

why cant you just grab the rotor like a steering wheel and slam it forward against the axle?
Also, isn't it a bad idea to let the caliper hang by the brake line like that?

That’s making a noise after the service is done. What could be the problem?

What store do you work at? You know that’s not the Firestone way. Those bolts you reused are torque to yield. That means one time use only. If you need to know how to do something it’s on the pos under maintenance/repair.
