I’ve been riding this Marlin 7 for four years now and I’ve made some upgrades. Sure, I could have traded it in on a new model and saved some money but I’d still need to make upgrades. I still have some yet to make but so far here’s list and links.

2023 isn’t quite in the books but the Trek sale on the Gen 2 and 3 Marlins has been going on for quite some time and I’m tempted to kick some tires.

The reason for this is partly due to aging and grinding bearings and a desire for better brakes and having a better rim for going back to tubeless tires.

I’ve also been looking hard at the Roscoe 7 because I discovered a nice blue flow trail near me and this bike has many of the features I already have and had planned to add this bike. I also like that the frame is more robust, though part of what I like about the Marlin is that it’s relatively lightweight. A Roscoe would certainly not fully replace this Marlin, but it would nice to have an additional bike that’s more trail oriented.

I still like Marlins over hybrids like the FX and DS for the family rides. I also have aspirations of taking it on a bikepacking adventure but I’ll freely admit that this bike needs more maintenance whose costs add up and are still somewhat beyond my meager DIY abilities.

Probably the best upgrade would be the dropper post, and if anybody is riding a Marlin GET ONE - even if you’re not riding technical stuff. Being able to get that seat out of your way at a moments notice - even if to just put a foot down - is well worth the cost.
