How Salvador Dalí's art found a home in Florida

More than 2,400 works by the Spanish artist Salvador Dalí (1904-1989), from oil paintings and prints to sculptural mashups, are featured at The Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg, Fla., which also hosts immersive exhibitions celebrating the Surrealist. Correspondent Conor Knighton takes a trip through Dalí's peculiar vision of the world; tracks the surreal road his artwork took to its eventual home in Florida; and examines the artist's continued impact today.

I am a supporting member and love his artwork. I was also at his burial ground at his other museum in Figueres, Spain which is just to the east of Barcelona . He was unbelievable.

Good for St Petersburg, Florida. If ever visiting Paris check out the small, tucked away Dali museum up near Sacre Cœur.

It really is a remarkable museum. There are so many works there spanning his entire life, and it's not just the leftovers that other museums didn't want. There are many renowned pieces including several of his masterworks which tower over the observer and contain an astonishing level of detail. If ever in the Tampa Bay area, it's a must.

I bought a Dali at an auction for the school where I taught--Chicago Academy for the Arts ---I had been a student in Spain and saw his work there in Barcelona

Awesome piece, glad to see the recognition. Am also reminded how, in his later years, he was trapped in the persona, and forced to play it out. Same with hunter Thompson and Hemingway. They realized they were just caricatures in the public's eyes.

Dali is 100% my favorite painter, no one else is close.

I live not far away from the museum. Its one good thing Florida has. Point is, go to the museum. Its spectacular. Super cheap and worthy of a day spent.
