Saffa here and I think the McCaw/Carter era for the ABs is the best test rugby team so far. Although bear in mind that this Springbok era isn't done yet.

This is Brian's coping mechanism for Ireland getting knocked out

What a joke of a question. They’ve won 1 rugby championship in 8 years. They lost games in both their RWC titles. This RWC they had one win that stood out, against France, beat literally the worst England side in history and scrapped a 1 point win against a14 man ABs.
The 2015 All blacks also won 2 RWCs on the trot, without losing games, won 5/8 rugby championships and went on a record making 18 game unbeaten run.
It’s not even close

I loved the way the boks have done it... rugby doesn't come in one size fits all.

O'driscoll almost wanted to suggest that the 2015 All Blacks would've wiped the floor with the 2023 Springboks, while conveniently forgetting that that very 2015 AB's had only barely beaten a rather mediocre Springbok team(compared to the class of 2023) in the semi-final. You are only as good as your opposition allows you to be.

You can't play the best rugby against all the top teams. Impossible.

You’re spot on, Brian - that was the best team ever, with a tremendous record between RWCs as well 👍👏

He's still concussed from the 2009 lions tour. Dont mind him.

2015 All Blacks were just unmatched, but times have changed, in 2015 we didnt have an Irish side who played with machine like precision, consistently beating the top 5 nations, in 2015 there was no French team with a mix of flair and forward dominance, with players like Dupont, and Pernaude, Intermak...the All Blacks looked ordinary not because they were bad, but because the rest was so much better...so i argue that this Springbok team had much harder route and tougher competition to retain their title almost tiring out in the finals

We will never expect any NZ, Irish and English media to talk sense.

SA was at quite a low point rugby wise in 2015, losing to Japan in the pool stages. That same team then went on to lose the semi final against NZ by just two points. i think you could make a strong argument that SA would still have won the world cup even if they were against the all blacks of 2015. This team managed to win without three of our best players and our only specialist hooker being injured in the first few minutes of the final. Also what is "the best rugby" or "enjoyment point of view". Those sound like purely subjective ideas. Is the best rugby makng 200 passes a game and scoring tries or is it making 200 tackles a game and forcing penalties. In my opinion both teams have their strengths and to brand one as "best rugby" and another as boring is just a bit ridiculous.

Saffa here- I agree with Brian, BUT this current Bok side is still evolving. Still 2015 AB’s fkn untouchable.

The 2015 All Blacks were a great side. That does not make these Springboks a lucky side, or not worthy of what they have achieved. Everyone is claiming South Africa was favoured by refs, when it has clearly been the case that we have been considered the pariah country by the rest of the world, and the officitating has so often not favoured South Africa. World rugby has had it in for us for years. We won fair and square.

That All blacks team was ranked number one for ten years no comparison and with that incredible record ws 90% win record between world cups including one season where they won every game so if south africa want to get to that level they need to be consistant between world cups.

2015 all blacks won their games convincingly with any ref. This SA team would have lost their last three games with different officiating teams. Big difference.

2015 All Blacks were great but why does South Africa get so much sourness. It's about winning. It's only about winning. There can't be only one way to win.

The best type of rugby is winning rugby and what could be bigger than winning a World Cup? I know: winning 2 world cups! Back to back 🎉🎉🎉

I must point out that NZ have been in 10 RWC and have won 3 of them . . twice on home soil and the other in England . . think about this for a moment.

Now, SA have been in 8 RWC and have won 4 of them . . once on home soil, once in Japan and twice in France . . SA are the only team that have won the RWC at venues where English is not the main language . . none of the other RWC winners ( NZ, AUS & ENG) have ever been able to do this, yet the Springboks have done it on 3 occasions.

The NZ back-to-back RWC victories were on home soil and in England (the land of origin for most New Zealanders).

The SA back-to-back RWC victories were in Japan and France . . the Springboks had to face both host nations at the same stage of RWC which was in the Q-Finals . . they weren't the favourites in 2019 but they won it and in 2023 they had to face 5 out of the 6 highest ranked teams as well as end their group game with a very physical Tonga.
They also had to deal with death threats aimed at one of their players and a week later the team is hit with a racial allegation.

Question: why is it, that a team labelled as playing boring rugby were all the games that featured the Springboks, all very unique, entertaining, kept you on the edge of your seat.

This sounds like a dad trying to convince his kids that music from his time was better than it is today.
