Graph visualization of Brain Structural Connectivity using Diffusion Tensor Imaging

A 65 years old male underwent MRI examination. A DTI diffusion scheme was used and a total of 64 diffusion sampling directions were acquired. The b-value was 2000 s/mm2.
Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI) and the associate tractography methods can be used to reconstruct fiber bundles based on voxel based directional information. Based on the tractography, the connectivity matrix also known as structural network can be constructed from structural connectivity calculated by counting the number of fibers between cortical regions in the brain. Further, graph theory-based network analysis has been applied on the connectivity matrix to investigate the topology properties of entire network instead of individual analysis of large number of tracts. The change in network metrics has already been found in several neurological and psychological disorders such as Alzheimer's disease and Schizophrenia.
