98 reasons to visit Latvia

On November 18, 1918, the Republic of Latvia was proclaimed. That was Latvia's birthday. Birthdays are wonderful events if we all participate. Join us to celebrate!

Everything is prepared and ready to celebrate the centenary of the Latvian State. We asked 98 foreign people to share ones private and particular association - what is Latvia for them? Here are the reasons to save the date in 2018, to visit Latvia and celebrate our 100th birthday together.

'We had a sincere interest, how Latvia is seen by expatriates. Most of you might answer that Riga is the capital of Art Nouveau, we are well known for a great ice hockey team and fans, NBA star Kristaps Porzingis is Latvian and so is Maris Strombergs, the Olympic champion in BMX. They say we have the most beautiful girls in the world, and I think Jimmy Fallon sometimes gets confused when our country is mentioned on his show. Plus, Latvia is famous for classical musicians: Elina Garanca, Andris Nelsons, Marina Rebeka and so many more. This was the time when we were not shy to ask foreigners: What Latvia means to you? Something personal, please!' says Eva Ikstena, one of the authors of the video.

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Latvia will continue from 2017 to 2021. The main message will be "I am Latvia", emphasizing that the people are the main value of the country - what they do today shapes the present and lays the foundation for the future of Latvia.

As Latvian American, I love seeing these kinds of clips. It is so hard to find things in English or actually anything at all about Latvian culture online. Y'all need to bring that bread and beer over to America, trust me Americans would appreciate it.

Most of the comment section is legit latvians saying "oh no refugees!" and oh latvia Is only for Latvians!" like stfu I am latvian but I lived in England for half of my life. I met alot of people from all over the world most of them were the nicest people ever! Be happy that people are actually coming to latvia (since legit no one even knows we exist) like dude. Chill. Also this is kinda of the reason why I hate this country, alot of people here are just so judgemental for some fucked up reason. Just don't have children please, that's the only way you'll contribute to society.
