Dude, you are Ironman. You single handedly saved the universe of at-home barbing for dummies. Thank you.

I had to learn to fade my own hair. Tired of waiting or making appointments and paying over priced cuts. Bought good quality clippers and learned to use non-dominant hand to fade left side.

This is how I remember it as well. It's all about a gradual decrease/increase in guard size depending on the direction you are going.

Just Always Remember This Guard Order, ... 2 guard, 1 guard, 1/2 guard, No guard switch fully open, No guard switch halfway open and No guard switch fully closed.

1) I always start from the bottom guide line and work my way up. Cut the bottom line with No Guard Fully Closed. Everything under this guide line should be shaved as bald as possible.

2) Now move to No Guard Switch Fully Open and shave up about a half an inch. This creates section number one.

3) Next switch to using the 1 Guard and go up another half inch. This creates section number two.

4) Now the final thing to do is blend out both sections by using a half guard setting for each section. So section 1 will need the No Guard with Switch Half Open setting; and Section 2 will need the actual 1/2 Guard.

5) I start with section 1 and basically shave from the bottom line up to the halfway inch point of that section.

6) I move to section 2 and repeat but this time using the 1/2 guard. Anything above the top of section number 2 can use a 2 guard or higher to shape out the fade.

If you go closed first you’ll raise the fade, do the open step first to establish your area of space your working with, then the half half way, then erase the bottom line with closed…

I’ve been watching videos on how to fade for at least a decade now. This video was by far the most helpful. I literally just figured out what they meant when they say open the blade close the blade. Wish I saw this video 9 years ago
