20 | Crossing the Western Pacific on a Wooden Boat

We set out on an ocean passage across the western pacific from Fiji to New Caledonia, about 700 nautical miles. This passage had some great sailing, and some scary moments as a severe squall passed over us in the night and kept the boat pinned down on her side until we could reduce sail. Overall this was one of our best passages yet, seven days spent exploring the beauty of the open ocean.

Julia is a traditional wooden boat, built in 1960 in Desolation Sound in British Columbia to William Atkin's Ingrid design. She is a Pacific ocean veteran, with many blue water miles under her keel.

I am 61 years old already and I am completely fascinated with sailing and the ocean and have never been sailing. I just love boats and the water. This is an interesting video I must say. I watch numerous sailing videos and this one is pretty cool. I love the idea of traveling and arriving at an anchorage and getting up in the morning sitting on the deck with a nice cup of coffee and watching everyone getting their day started, exploring the places with no schedule and enjoying different places.
