Thanks SSG Carol! I had tried before, and just like Vyz3r said, "it's funny that a soldier taught me this better than the pros!" Thank you for your service!

I've played a six hole diatonic blackwood piccolo fife for years. I've been trying to play flute for a week and a half and until now just couldn't get it. Your video has got me sounding low notes with reasonably full bodied tone. Now I've got to learn how to hold securely without mistakenly touching keys or death-gripping the instrument. Onward. Thank you Sergeant Joe.

I don't know how you did it but I finally got a sound out of my flute by using your method! Thank you much.

Thank you! This really helped me! Thank you for serving in the world's greatest army and protecting our country. My dad was in the 8th army division in WW2; Japan occupational forces MP.

I'm laughing at the fact that a US soldier taught me better on how to make a sound on a flute than professional flute players 😂
Thank you for the lesson and thank you for your service.

First, thank you for your service! Thank you so much for this video! My daughter has decided to play flute in 6th grade band. I played it as well, but I've had trouble teaching her how to place her mouth on the lip plate. She got it right almost instantly with your video!

The tip about imagining a spot on the ground in front of you is really useful.

The “poo” tip was excellent and made a big difference for me! I would just add that using a totally natural resting lip posture didn’t work for me, perhaps because mouth shapes vary between people? I have rather narrow lips, so I have to slightly purse and widen the corners of my lips to get that clear sound. But hey, for the length of video you provided, that core information was spot on! I’m going to look for other videos that talk about modifications needed for different mouth shapes.

Thanks for a very informative video. Do you have similar tutorial videos for playing different notes on the flute?

The word comes from the french mouth, but not the human mouth. Embouchure is the mouth of a river, where the river starts.
