have germinated raw pistachio seeds from Turkish / Iranian / Asian food stores . better germination with stratification , a few will germinate early so need to watch for them . need growing on till flowering size , then will graft female branches on to the excess male plants

People who want to buy these plants in garden shops be careful there are some plant distributors that sell Pistacia lentiscus as pistachio nut tree. It's s scam and they have been doing this for years.

I think this is a seedling from a wild plant, that would explain the size of the fruit, could also be due to drought and shade if they didn´t water it.
About the pollination: it could be possible that they are able to hybridize with Cotinus coggygria which is a very common ornamental in germany and a closely related genera, Rhus is also relate but quite a bit more appart so if is hybridizing then with Cotinus.

Are pistachios subject to hermaphroditism when stressed? It’s either that or a branch has been grafted. Or, perhaps, another tree is nearby?
