Dragon Ball Z | SSJ Transformation Remake (Mike Smith) | By Gladius

This piece of music has always been a long time favorite of mine. Seeing Goku turn Super Saiyan for the first time completely moved me in my soul; I'm glad I had the episode recorded on VHS so I could watch it over and over. The music in the English Dub (by Mike Smith from Faulconer Productions) just hit me different to the music in the Japanese dub. There was something so emotional- particularly around 0:35, where the choir starts to build; that just sings Goku's hopelessness from the death of Krillin, juxtaposed with a hopefulness of a deeper place within him- in spite of everything Freeza has done and how unbeatable he seems, there's still a chance. I redrew and animated this still from the episode; it's one of my favorite images from this transformation. Enjoy!

*the moment everyone watching the episode first time, got the chills down the spine, when realizing, Goku is about to power up, yet the moment he begins show flashes of a super saiyan, there is so much emotion in it*
all while Frieza is shitting bricks when realizing he just made his worst nightmare, become reality XD

in the early half i love that sad, melodic, choral element- so profound and truly dramatic. Frieza has brutalized millions of innocents to this point, and finally Krillin - and laughs about it. It's like the souls of the departed are singing a lamentation, crying out for Goku to please end this evil so that they feel dignified and avenged. Then the music ramps up cause Goku through his rage is stating: "mission accepted"

The way you synced your rendition with the animation is literally perfect. The moment he turns into an SSJ while you flip the beat to 4/4 simultaneously is so satisfying to watch over and over again.

We were all at the verge of this moment on March 8, 2024. The entire planet was shrouded in dark clouds, with radical lightning, followed by a golden aura. It was as if the planet itself transformed in those moments. Rest in peace Toriyama-sensei. ✌🏻

Goku's first super saiyan transformation will always be the best. The raw golden light of hope shining over the bleak scenario, born from the sheer rage of losing a close friend and the determination to end the one responsible for the slaughter of millions of lives.

Gohan's SSJ 2 transform against Cell was my personal favorite regarding emotion. Goku's SSJ 1 against Freiza here is a close 2nd.

I love remixes of the ssj transformation, this one is especially amazing because it kept the same pattern and stuff but had the sounds remixed, truly amazing.
