New York City, not-too-distant-future: Eric Packer, a 28 year-old finance golden boy dreaming of living in a civilization ahead of this one, watches a dark shadow cast over the firmament of the Wall Street galaxy, of which he is the uncontested king. As he is chauffeured across midtown Manhattan to get a haircut at his father's old barber, his anxious eyes are glued to the yuan's exchange rate: it is mounting against all expectations, destroying Eric's bet against it. Eric Packer is losing his empire with every tick of the clock. Meanwhile, an eruption of wild activity unfolds in the city's streets. Petrified as the threats of the real world infringe upon his cloud of virtual convictions, his paranoia intensifies during the course of his 24-hour cross-town odyssey.

samantha morton is fascinating in this film. she is just hypnotic....and her character's lines are pricelessly articulate and labyrinthine. kudos to all involved.

I LOVE this movie! And I love this scene, the way they're having a calm conversation while the Limo is being pushed and stuff. Funny scene!

Technically perfect and intellectually provocative dialogues. Don deLillo and David Cronenberg- both are genius. And Samantha Morton shows some brilliant acting in this scene. A virtually monstrous masterpiece!

I love Morton's smug little nod at the end. So perfect. Can't wait to see this.

Robert Pattinson can act. Who knew?
He is incredible in this film with doing barely more than turning his eyes or making the slightest smirk; he utterly dominates and commands the film just by sitting still. Originally it was supposed to be Colin Farell in the lead role - I dread to think how that would have turned out.

Rober Pattinson is not playing this guy - he has become Eric Packer, each extract from the movie proves it. The rest of the cast are brilliant too, looks like. I absolutely love the way he says the last sentence and how Samantha Morton nods to it - perfect and priceless. The way he delivers De Lillo lines is nothing like his previous roles, I must agree with the critics who praise him for that in his performance. The accent suits him, too, he's got the voice for it.

No, we did not. You and some others probably thought he could act in the Twilight films.

Well, we all saw he could act in the Twilight Saga, so why be amazed?

samantha morton is awful here. she is not acting in character or even speaking as a real human being in that situation (where i feel pattison is!!). it just feels false, like she has learnt her lines with excess. she feels comfortable speaking them, but as a void. In all i don't believe her and it jars me out of the scene. I suppose if I take the film as metaphor then her unreality is justified but then my noted suspension of disbelief is till apparent. Yikes! -1billion for acting.
