GALATA BRIDGE WALKING TOUR - ISTANBUL WALKING TOUR SERIES
Walking on the Galata Bridge, you will recognize that there are many fishers on the bridge on any time of the day. Galata Bridge is one of the most popular historical places in Istanbul. I can say that there are many cafes and restaurants under the bridge that are preferred by mostly tourists. (It wouldn't be wrong to say that they are a bit more pricy than the ones around Karakoy and Eminonu district)
Galata Bridge is the bridge built on the Golden Horn in Istanbul, connecting Karaköy and Eminönü.
Galata Bridge was completed and put into service in December 1994. It is a scale bridge with a length of 490 meters and an 80-meter part that can be opened. It is one of the rare bascule bridges in the world over which a tram passes.

The first bridge connecting the Golden Horn and known as the "Galata Bridge" was built in 1845. This bridge was renovated in 1863, 1875 and 1912; The bridge in the style of the First National Architecture Movement, built in 1912, has become one of the symbols of the city.
Galata Bridge, which has become one of the traditional icons of Istanbul today, carries the symbolism of "the bridge connecting two cultures" as it connects New Istanbul (Karaköy, Beyoğlu, Harbiye) and Old Istanbul (Sultanahmet, Fatih, Eminönü).
In Peyami Safa's novel "Fatih Harbiye", it is said that a person who goes from Fatih district to Harbiye by bridge will place a different civilization and different culture on their feet.
You can seen many locals & tourists fishing on the bridge. There are also restaurants under the Galata Bridge that make great delicious food.
Walking on the Galata Bridge has always been a great experience for me.

1994 yılı Aralık ayında tamamlanarak hizmete girmiş olan ve günümüzde hizmet vermekte olan Galata Köprüsü, 490 metre uzunluğunda bir baskül köprüdür. Aynı zamanda dünyadaki üzerinden tramvay geçen ender baskül köprülerden biridir.
İstanbul'un geleneksel ikonlarından biri haline gelmiş olan Galata Köprüsü, Yeni İstanbul (Karaköy, Beyoğlu, Harbiye) ve Eski İstanbul'u (Sultanahmet, Fatih, Eminönü) birbirine bağladığı için "iki kültürü birbirine bağlayan köprü" simgeselliğini taşımaktadır.
Ünlü yazar Peyami Safa'nın romanı "Fatih Harbiye" de (dizisi de çekildi), Fatih ilçesi'nden Harbiye'ye köprü yolu ile giden bir kimse farklı uygarlık ve farklı kültürü ayaklarına yerleştirir der. Galata Köprüsü tasarım olarak başka köprülerden pek farklı olmasa da kültürel değeri nedeniyle pek çok edebiyatçı, ressam, yönetmen ve oymacıya konu olmuştur.
Aynı zamanda 1986 yılından 1992 yılına kadar rock camiasının uğrak yeri olan Kemancı'ya ev sahipliği yapmıştır.
Haliç'i birleştiren ve "Galata Köprüsü" olarak bilinen ilk köprü, 1845 yılında inşa edilmişti. Bu köprü 1863, 1875 ve 1912 yıllarında yenilenmiş; 1912'de inşa edilen Birinci Ulusal Mimarlık Akımı tarzındaki köprü, şehrin simgelerinden birisi olmuştur.[2] Şehrin sembolü olan Galata Köprüsü 1992'de yanmış ve adı "Tarihi Galata Köprüsü" olmuştur.
