I think this tragic accident falls on the armorer. Baldwin is an actor, not a firearms expert. Why when rehearsing a scene should he assume a prop gun handed to him, which had been announced as clear and safe by a “trained professional armorer”, is in fact loaded, not even with a blank, but a live round? It’s a movie set and production employed an armorer to keep track of and ensure the prop weapons are safe to handle. These measures are only in place due to the danger of mishandled blanks, live rounds have no business on a film set and I wouldn’t fault anyone for assuming the gun is loaded with anything but blanks. It’s like a nurse handing a doctor a syringe full of Glucagon when they requested Insulin, who would you blame?

Those of us who know the mechanics of the single action revolvers used by Baldwin know it is an impossibility to modify that gun to fire itself, period!!! More than likely what is really happening is someone is being paid off.

I think people had unrealistic expectations concerning the competence of New Mexico’s law enforcement and judicial community. This sort of thing is way beyond their ability to cope with. Unless they are allowed to rig the game in secret, they will fail every time.
