Interestingly, there seems to be a correlation between the amount of time that a tardigrade spent in its tun state and the amount of time that it takes for the tardigrade to rehydrate and reanimate. It is thought that during this lag time it is repairing its own DNA.

Also, from experiments in my own home laboratory (which are not professional by any means), it appears that tardigrades do not do well in low oxygen environments (i.e. if entrapped under a biofilm layer), and I am pretty sure that I read a study stating water that is high in ammonia will kill off tardigrades.

Just some interesting tidbits I wanted to share.

They're strangely cute. Aren't they also called water bears?

They can survive anything except the things that actually kill them, like snails

Because we all turn into them after 40. That's why women love men that age because they know they are becoming waterbears

Everything I know about tardigrades came from science fiction, and is even less impressive than the reality.

300°F is so lame. I mean it makes sense that no animal could survive it but I always heard Tardigrades get so hyped up so I thought it'd be more like 500-1000°F. I see now how naive I was.

Tartagrades are my favorite ! But I hate the fact that scientists experiment with them in horrible ways ! How would scientists like it if those things were done to themselves ? 😡😡😡

Interesting. Makes me think about leeches - super regeneration after physikal trauma like cutting, but not that much resilient against the environment. Mix both species and the result (Tardileech?) is indestructible!
