You missed the boat on this one man, it's a genius move! All of us who weren't gonna buy a next gen console at all can now play next gen games for 2 or 300 bucks. It's gonna be a great Christmas gift price too, getting one my lil bro in college who only has a 1080p tv(and who probably won't buy a 4k TV for 5+ years).

Regarding the S... There are a lot of people (families, children) who don’t care about graphics or high frame rates - they just want to casually play a few games a year and not obsess over the details. Many of my casual family and friends main the Nintendo Switch and never once complained or even noticed games running 30fps (or below) or only being 720p. For the more invested gamer’s, we will obviously go with the X, so who cares about what the S is doing? Nobody will get left behind, everyone has options, we all win.

I disagree. this small xbox will become the best seller of xbox line. In third world countrys like mine no everyone has a 4k tv. 1080p 60fps to play next gen console games at a fair price seems good for me and for most of the regular users.
All come to price. if this thing cost (200 - 300) its a good deal.

It’s just a budget option, most console gamers don’t care that much about specs. Also most people only have 1080p 60hz screens. Especially among console players.

I don't understand the hate. It will be a good console for either new players or people who can't afford a super console without a tv to support it. I will be buy the S for my son. Can still play all upcoming games without worrying about previous gen losing support.

I'm the perfect customer for Lockhart/Series S. I'm still rocking an old 1080p Panasonic Plasma TV and I don't plan on replacing it any time soon, unless it explodes. It's still got amazing picture quality. Not everyone has 4K nor needs it. And I honestly think this current gen didn't even get the most out of 1080p. It's similar to PC strategy. The CPU is still a monster, the GPU still supports everything current, it's just targeting a lower resolution so it doesn't need as much horsepower. If this means the price of entry into next gen is substantially cheaper, then it's a brilliant move.

$299 will be the cost. Remember this is designed for 1080P TV's. It will have the same CPU just not the same GPU. so they can scale down Performance to run on 1080P. You will be surprised how well it plays.

Very poor analysis of the Series S by UFD Tech here.
1) 4TF of RDNA2 vs 6TF of GCN (Polaris) is not as far off as you think. Let's compare something similar: 5500 XT (5.2TF) vs RX 590 (7.12TF). Both pretty similar performance but the Polaris part needs about 37% higher theoretical floating point performance to reach it. So an 4TF RDNA part would perform more like a 5.5TF GCN part. By that point we have not even factored in that Series S will feature RDNA2 and that the XBX has an absolutely terrible CPU.
2) I've seen no one talk about how this could mean that the whole Xbox One range is EOL the moment Series S and X launch, which would make a lot of sense.
3) As with every electronic device on this planet, the price is what is going to make it our break it. If the Series S comes in at 299$ it won't be a massive seller. If it's 249$ it is getting better and at 199$, or some subscription bundle that masks the initial price, this thing would be a slam dunk that not only keeps Sony in check but also Nintendo. With the Switch still selling like hot cakes Nintendo should definitely not be underestimated in the years ahead.

1080p 60 Hz is technically the same as it was back in 2013 with the highest graphics preset. Videogame graphics are far more demanding than they were back in 2013. Comparing the highest graphics preset of a 2013 game and a 2020 game is very different experience. If it can provide a stable solid 60 FPS at 1080p the highest graphics preset, then it will still look and play great. The majority of users have 1080p TV anyway. I personally don't have a 4K TV yet. They only just recently started becoming more affordable

Xbox One X has 6tflop and Lockhart has 4tflop with amazingly faster CPU and an SSD and 10gb of RAM..
Also tflops don't really mean shit when it comes to gaming perfomance... so it may be same as Xbox One X with a huge advantage in CPU or even better them Xbox One X...

It’s RDNA 2 doesn’t that mean the even at less teraflops then the Xbox one x 6 teraflops. It will perform equally but being the better CPU means higher FPS. if the that’s the case at $250 which is where the rumors have it at, that makes it a compelling system for a budget.

In the country I live 4k tvs are really expensive so I'm fine with a 60fps 1080p console.

Its a smart marketing move on the Xbox, and can help those on a tighter budget.
