The Professor encounters a "fantastic" periodic table at a university in Rio, Brazil.

Its lay-out is unusual and it contains several elements with surprising symbols, including Vi for Francium.

"Why?"
"I don't know."
I love his honesty. ^.^

The neutron was discovered in 1932 and the false name Virginium was disproved in 1934 so that suggests the date of the table is between those two dates though it might be a little later as the Vi would have hung around for a while after it was disproved.

This calls for a new tie for the collection.

Best way of teaching... make your students look it up. :)

What I learned from this video: neutrons are elements.

I am now prepared to ace my chemistry exam.

The thing I find fascinating is the strange spacing in some areas, as well as some offsets with the highlighting in some of the cells.
For example, at around 0:38 you get a good view of a few of them. (V and Mn I think, in particular)

Ab - comes from "Aldebaranium" - because the element was named after the star Aldebaran; or, at least that's what I know about this name.

@hedleypanama : Tungsten is really the older Nordic name for the mineral called Scheelite, an important ore for the element, and the name literally means heavy stone, as the mineral is rather heavy. When the metal was discovered the name wolframium was suggested, and many languages adopted the derivative wolfram as the name for the element, but English started to use the name of the ore, tungsten, for some reason.

Bizarre! I've never seen a table like that! How exciting!!

Found out about element 87 with symbol Vi, which is short for Virginium. It is a discredited claim to discovery of francium.

I have an unusual periodic table designed by Prof. Theodor Benfey of Guildford College in the 1960's, arranged in a spiral shape. The element row coils around in a spiral to illustrate filling shells. The d- and f-series elements fit in by creating large "folds" sticking out from the main 8-unit spiral. See "alternative periodic tables" in WIkipedia.

Yup, Cb is columbium, nowdays niobium. I was lucky to hold an old, locked, wooden box with a full vial. Sadly, I really don't remember was it the metal or an oxide. But what I do remember is being so happy to actually hold it, knowing it was really old because the name is abandoned.
It's a somewhat sad story, regarding niobium and tungsten names. Perhaps you could cover that in your videos, too.

Awesome!
It's surely a huge honor for studying in this room.

Nope. Have you heard of an SD card? When periodicvideos uploaded this, they were visiting Rio, and had no internet. Fortunately, they can wait till they get home to upload it.
