I built one on Ruger american gen 1. The rifle 350 beans, the barrel 299 on sale and I head spaced it myself making it all under 800 bucks. It shoots lights out for a home built rifle. Love your channel wtw!

I get that it’s often overlooked, especially with other popular calibers dominating the long-range scene. But there's something to be said for how flat and fast it shoots, and it’s a unique option for those who like to experiment with custom loads

Can take a stock firearm with a 0.478 bolt face, replace the barrel, and you have a 22 Creed.

Yes sir an answer to a question not many were asking...

Exactly! While back I watched a video Ron Spomer did on an $8, 000 single shot rifle that didn’t like hardly any ammo. I thought to myself that’s 10 times what my Savage 110 cost, and I get sub .5 inch groups with it.

I concur sir ! Keep up the good work 🙌

I had a Savage 12 in 22 250 Remington and took the barrel off of that and I am getting a new barrel made for that Savage in 22 Creedmoor. I bought reloading dies, 22 Creedmoor brass and 80 grain Hornady bullets from Midway USA. I am surprised you are not changing barrels on some of you rifles.

Adam, I can mostly agree with what you are saying, but I think there is still a place for it. It was turned into a SAAMI cartridge because there were so many shooters building wildcat versions of it. It’s a little unfortunate that Horizon has exclusivity on it, as I think that will slow adoption by gun and ammo manufacturers. Where I think it makes sense is for shooters that are rebarreling rifles with burned out barrels or factory rifles that won’t shoot accurately. There are plenty of 22-250’s that get burned out and the 22 Creedmoor offers a couple of small (but nice) improvements. If you reload, there is excellent brass from Alpha and Peterson. The steeper shoulder angle can reduce frequency of trimming and has become the standard for newer cartridges. Reloading data is available for the longer high bc bullets and modern powders. If you believe some of the info from ballisticians, trading a little velocity for higher bc makes it easier to achieve accuracy and improve barrel life while achieving similar down range energy and wind drift, so the heavy bullets it can shoot are an improvement over some of the other hot 22 caliber cartridges. If you only care about inexpensive factory guns, and aren’t interested in rebarreling or reloading, it’s not the option for you. For someone like me, I think it’s a valid option. I have a Howa 243 with 1500 rounds on it and the groups are starting to open up. I’ve upgraded the trigger and stock on it and I like the action, so $600 to have it rebarrelled makes sense for me. It will likely be a 22 Creedmoor by this time next year.

I don't disagree and find it frustrating that Savage and others won't produce a rifle in this chambering.

With that said a person could re-barrel one of their current rifles or even re-barrel a new rifle for far less than a Horizon rifle. This isn't terribly difficult.

The next hurdle is ammo availability. This is a big issue for folks that shoot factory ammo!
However, if you reload your own ammo then it's a non-issue.

The 22 Creedmoor seems to be an outstanding cartridge and I hope it gets more factory support.

Hornady with Horizon Firearms got 22 Creedmoor SAAMI certified and is the only one who loads ammo for it.
I recently listened to the Backcountry Hunting podcast with Joseph VonBenedikt and one of the Hornady guys on their hunt in Africa with 22 CM and 22 ARC. He did mention that in a couple years Horizon’s patent will run out for 22 CM so other manufacturers will be able to build firearms for it
