Second officer duties and responsibilities

What is like to be a Second Officer? Here's some of the duties and responsibilities of a Second Officer on board a container vessel. Although it's a container vessel but most the Second Officer duties and responsibilities are the same.

Regarding: gmdss sir, it includes the checking of batteries of gmdss: (as I know the battery must be change every two years. Even though the hydrometer reading of battery distilled water good but the (plates) inside the batteries have broken or have small pieces broken it's unrealiable that's the reason that if you use it the current will not give as good performance. I'm presently chiefmate here in domestic shipping but when I was radio operator for 10yrs it's one of my obligations. But since you're so busy indeed if your indoubt you may ask the electrician or the marine engineers. I just wanted to share my tiny experience way back then 1989~2001 as Radio Operator peace sir... P.s ( saka sir Ang bolts or nuts ng batteries ay kailan I tighten bolts or nuts depende sa design sir, every 6months due to vessels possible vibration kahit mga 3mm-5mm tight Lang iwas Lang baka ma loose thread.
