Thank you for taking the time to explain your thought process behind what is on screen- It's super helpful. Too many other channels just play music and show the process at warp speed with no explanation.

First off, the work is amazing. Everybody learns differently, and I see you're a very professional 3d artist, and you've learned a lot.

But having some understanding of color theory and how materials work really goes a long way. Of course, when you're starting off, you HAVE to copy, because it's not about learning the form, but the process.

Yet when you're explaining your work, I can see that approach still remains. I think "others do it, so do it as well" is not a good explanation. Here are better explanations:

= We draw the darkening on metals because metals tend to be darker in general, they absorb light where there isn't enough to reflect. And where there is enough, they reflect and make a strong highlight effect. That's why metals can appear shiny in some places, but darker than diffuse in others.

= The color variety in shading is mainly due to light reflections. We're used to seeing reflexes in things, so a shadow can't "be" without a reflex, it looks unnatural. Therefore ambient colors (like blue) or model colors can be reflected. That's partly the reason why they teach you the "Warm light = cold shadows, cold light = warm shadows" rule in art school.
