Find the Surface Area and Volume of Rectangular Prisms!

In this video, I'll show you how to find the surface area and the volume of rectangular prisms. A rectangular prism is like a box that has the length, height, and width. Because of that, each side of the rectangular prism is a rectangle. To find the surface area of a rectangular prism, we need to count all the rectangular sides and find the total area. The formula for the surface area of a rectangular prism is SA = 2wh + 2wl + 2lh, where the w is the width, l is the length, and h is the height.

To find a rectangular prism's volume, you need to use this formula: V = l x w x h. Basically, you just take the width and multiply it by the length and the height. Why is the volume formula this way? If you watch my previous video, I explained the volume formula for the cube, and the volume for the rectangular prism is similar.

By the end of the video, I hope that you learned how to easily find the surface area and the volume of the rectangular prisms. This is one of my favourite exercises in math because it is so easy. In the next video, instead of the surface area and volume of rectangular prisms, I'm going to show you how to find the surface area and volume of cylinders, and the method is pretty similar.

So all the sides of a rectangular prism is a rectangle. I imagine a rectangular prism to be like a big box. Very good work!
