When I helped my brother build his solar array, we used this exact same concept to hoist post and beam units up. Basically long poles with winches.

i have to lift a salvaged 8x8 roof (with shingles) up onto the to[ of my shed addition. Ithis giave me a general idea of ho to at least het it upright to slide up up then tip onto roof. Thanx, cross your fingers!

Man, I remember huffing a 1/5 ton AC up 2 or 3 flights of stairs in an older house in OSU campus in Columbus OH. Had to lift it up and carry it out a window to set it. Really wish I had this contraption.

Have you had any issues with your winch stopping on you part way up? I just did this same set up and my winch is stopping about 6 feet up while hoisting up. I believe there is a thermal switch causing it to stop until it cools off.
