Andaluza - Falla orch. Simon Nathan (Orchestration Online challenge)

An orchestration that technically meets the 3 percussion criteria of the challenge. Regarding the key - I found that a lot of my ideas sat just a little bit too high for most instruments, and that by taking the whole thing down a tone, it opened up a lot of colours I wouldn't otherwise be able to get reliably (like the top C on the piccolo/xylophone, the 4-horn top A, the timp top G etc), plus allowed certain things to just be in a stronger part of the instrument's range (looking at bassoons and low brass here).

I used this largely to improve my mockup chops. Any comments on the mix highly appreciated.

This is *ridiculously* fun. I love that top A in the horns and the trombone triad reminds me of the Were Diu Werlt Alle Min fanfare from Carmina Burana. I love the triplets in the trumpets and trombones, and the upward rips in the horns. I just really really like this.
