Honestly I love that you cover not just US true crime, but also other countries, like Hong Kong or Germany! We do not hear that much about them comparing to US! I wish one day we would get to see also true crime from even more countries, I personally would love the take on Zagłębie Vampire, taken that to this day they speculate whether they gave the right person the death sentence.

Also, I've been wondering, Simon, if you would considered making video playlists for your channel, grouped by writers of the scripts or nature of the crimes featured - e.g. white collar crimes, bank robbery, serial murders.

Simon, it would probably be good to ask your writers to give you the category of the crimes. Just a little note with the document so that you can choose which one to do based on your level of sanity/faith in humanity/mental health. I don’t think it would ruin the cold read, but it might help you to brace yourself appropriately for the episode ahead of actually recording it.

19:14 hollow point bullets are publicly available and are oftentimes suggested for self defense for specifically the reasons you mentioned Simon. Usually police forces have specific manufacturer adjustments to their ammunition to make it clearer to forensics which rounds are theirs such as grain count (powder load), projectile alterations, stamped cartridges, or any combination of the proceeding.

There is an old quote from one of the old time mafia guys. "Rush a man with a gun. Run away from a man with a knife." Getting in close minimizes their ability to bring the gun to bear properly, so without cover being in close, as in the video, also lets you try and take away the weapon. The knife on the other hand is only usable once as a ranged weapon and only so far away so moving away makes in ineffective, whereas being close opens you to being stabbed or slashed.

Good to know it worked out that way for the officer in today's story.

It’s true that a doctor has to declare someone dead, but as a marine first responder we do have protocols for obvious death, and some of us can contact a doctor ashore and have them do the formal declaration based on our assessment. There are similar protocols for other first responders as well.

Simon, make sure you take a mental health break after covering Jim Jones. zodiac might be famously brutal, but... considering what is known as to what happened in Jonestown, a serial killer might just be the less intense of the of the two. if not, try to schedule it for the end of the day so you can go straight home and cuddle your kids. you'll need it. trust me.

3 minutes to the apartment building, under 2 minutes to the bank, and 30 SECONDS to the train!?
I've had to called the cops after an armed robbery in the US and it took 19 minutes and the nearest cop shop was 8 blocks away.

Side note: when are we getting that Emmett Till episode? It’s not a pretty story but it’s one I would love to see produced for the channel; the effects of that murder and following legal proceedings are quite intriguing to read and the long term effects of this crime have been embedded in American (particularly Black American) history and I think it should be told given this platform’s reach around the world.
