Imagine parachuting into a warzone only to break your legs as you land

As a Paratrooper myself, I can say there is an optical illusion..Everything is on slo-mo until the last 100 feet or so the ground literally comes at you so fast at the last 10 seconds. No training simulator can ever prepare you for that.

EDIT: I Have been getting notifications daily. I try to respond to all, some positive and some negative responses. Bottom line, thank you to those that experienced it for real and first hand. Although I respect what those that free jump go through, this type of jump was a different type of experience. To those that THINK they know....Have a blessed day/week. Have your pets spayed/neutered.

If you hate your knees, go airborne. You'll never actually use it in combat, but you'll get this cool badge I guess. Just don't forget to always go to the doc for your joint problems so the VA can't say "not service related"

Former army here:
I was never airborne, but I had buddies I still keep in contact with after our ETS that were airborne. I once met up with one of my buddies from the 82nd a few years later, and after a few beers, I asked him why he seemed shorter. He simply responded, "Airborne."

My uncle is a ranger. He landed funny on a jump which left him needing a metal hip.. He fought through the pain for four more years so he could get his twenty for retirement.
