I carry because I'm too old to run, but too young to die.

In the state of Florida says that 55 and older are seniors. We also have disparity of force. I’m almost 70 and I will not hesitate to defend myself against someone who is stupid enough to try to make me a victim.

I’m too broken to run, too old to fight and not old enough or ready to die.

For us older folks the prospect of just being knocked down by a thug and possibly breaking a hip is a frightening thing. Many of us older types never recover from a broken hip.

I have a sign in my office that says, “Just because I’m old doesn’t mean you are out of range.”

I'm 74 yo and in reasonably good shape, except for an arthritic right hip. I do about 11 miles a day in 35 minutes on the recumbent bike to keep the hip from stiffening up and try to get a couple of upper body weight workouts in every week. Having said that, there is no way I am going to be able to defend myself against a 20 year old in a hand to hand fight. My friends, Smith and Wesson, will be there to back me up. The jury be damned.

As an elderly person, this is an excellent real-world explanation. "Napkin math" and "reasonableness analysis"... vocabulary enlargement is a plus.

I'm 60 with a heart condition... I'm not running anywhere... and I'm not taking any physical hurting...

I carry because I'm physically disabled. I can walk. But with a cane most times and slowly due to multiple spinal surgeries. I can't fight. But I'll win.

I'm not elderly, I've just been around for a long time!!!!

Presuming all parties are adults, a significant difference in age creates an automatic disparity of force. What was reasonable for me to do in my 30's is decidedly different than what is reasonable in my 60's. And I can articulate that, although in good condition for a senior citizen, there is no way that I can physically compete with someone decades younger.

I'm 73 and a double cancer survivor, key word, SURVIVOR, and I'm way too stubborn and not ready to die. I refuse to be a victim of some young or not so young idiot so I carry everyday and I'm ready to defend myself and my family at any time!!! Like someone else said, jury be damned!!!

It's not like I can hit the ground and walk it off anymore, and the blood thinners make the threshold of 'lethal threat' a lower bar.

I am 77 Years old and disabled, I carry a weapon for defense and I am also well trained US Army veteran 1966 / 1969 . I have always had good self control will never disrespect anyone, I also know that I should only make use of my weapon in life or death situations. I have been verbally abused by many throughout my life, but never to the point where a brandishing firearm would need to take care of a petty problem. It’s much easier to take a cuss word than to take a weapon out on someone! Many people need to use Self Control!😊 you guys have a great weekend and thank you so much for all your wisdom and sharing with us! ❤

I'm 52, had c-spine surgery, and have several bad and degenerated disc's in my back, even though I'm still strong as a horse.
I ain't running, and I'm not going to tolerate a beating.

Always thankful to you two for putting forth food for thought. Of which I sometimes have not even considered the information for real life scenarios. Thank you
