Biden dropped out. What’s happens now?

President Biden, 81, said it was in “the best interest of my party and the country” to step aside, and he’ll “focus solely” on fulfilling the rest of his term. The decision, reached as Biden huddled with family and advisers in Delaware, set off an unprecedented scramble to select a new Democratic nominee.
 
Vice President Harris said she intends to “earn and win” the nomination. Many top Democrats, including Biden, have endorsed Harris — but there are other potential contenders. The nomination could be decided by a virtual vote. Or candidates may have to fight for support at the party’s convention in Chicago next month. Trump slightly leads Harris in polls. But her background as a prosecutor may help her attack Trump, a felon.
 
Trump appeared frustrated at Biden’s exit from the presidential race. He said he was “forced to spend time and money” on competing with Biden. And some Republicans are angry that Harris has control of Biden’s fundraising cash.
