Anura Kumara Dissanayake, a previously fringe Marxist leader, has been declared the President-elect of Sri Lanka. The presidential vote was coloured by discontent over the island nation's response to an unprecedented financial crisis. Dissanayake, 55, secured 42% of the votes followed by opposition leader Sajith Premadasa with 32%. Incumbent liberal President Ranil Wickremesinghe, who took over the country two years ago after its economy hit rock bottom, came distant a third and secured 17% of the votes. Dissanayake is due to be sworn in as Sri Lanka's 10th president on Monday.

under Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s leadership, Sri Lanka could return to a non-aligned stance in international relations. His vision appears to focus on preserving the country’s sovereignty and neutrality, steering clear of major power blocs, and prioritizing national interests above external pressures. This would mark a shift back to the principles of the Non-Aligned Movement, enabling Sri Lanka to navigate global politics independently and assertively.

He might share some good ideologies from Karl Marx, but that doesn’t make him a Marxist. I’ve also read Marx’s views, as well as those of many other insightful thinkers, but that doesn’t mean I’m an extremist to Marxism or any ideology. Similarly, Anura Kumara Dissanayake is not an extremist either. While their political party has historical ties to Marxism and socialism, they are not dogmatic or extreme in their approach.

Before spreading misinformation, I encourage you to listen to their opinions and read their manifesto. The National People's Power movement led by AKD is built on a rich foundation of ideologies, including influences from Buddhist philosophy and other profound schools of thought. Their perspective balances socialism, democracy, individualism, and justice for all.

Rather than being tied down to any one extreme, they aim for an inclusive and prosperous future. This is their chance to showcase how their approach evolves the country for the better.

I do not know why Election Commission was not genuine at the most serious moment of Sri Lanka The problem in Sri Lanka is no one performs their own duty. I performed my duty as a Professional Engineer for 27 years I am a 63 year widow. Today i am totally ousted from society and totally helpless. I am happy amoung all others I had my very genuine service towards my country. There are people who knows that. I still don't think he has viable economic policies (none of the top three candidates had) but I wish him all the best to govern the country. Lets hope he uplifts the class he represented without creating a welfare driven economy.
