Formal definition of social enterprise and the basic characteristic of the concept are provided. In particular, the multi-objective and multi-sector nature and the multi-stakeholder governance of social enterprises are introduced.
Some practical examples of social enterprise in different fields are presented. Finally the potential contributions of social enterprise to the socio-economic development is briefly analysed.
