It’s Christmas time and if you’ve been good, Santa’s going to bring you some gifts… but if you’ve been bad, in some parts of the world, Santa brings along a friend to smack you around a little bit.
His name is Krampus and he’s a half-goat, half-demon monster. Legend says that he’s son of Hel, the Norse god of the underworld. In the “nice” version of Krampus, he shows up to hit bad kids with a stick. In the not so nice version, he actually eats them or drags them to down into Hell. So if you’re good, you get a Nerf gun. If you’re bad, you suffer for eternity. Seems a little lopsided.
In Germany and Austria, there’s an annual celebration dedicated to Krampus called Krampuslauf, which means “Krampus Run”. During the celebration, people dress up like Krampus, drink booze, and run around scaring each other. It looks like a fun time. Well, as long as you're not on the naughty list.
