Premenos was an electronic data interchange software company based in King of Prussia, PA which was acquired by Harbinger Group in 1999.

The Intel chip on the Fixed Disk/Floppy Diskette card is an 8748 which is an 8048 with an on-die 1kB EPROM.

I had to smile when you showed off the manufacture date on the third keyboard. Same birthday as me.

I did multiple reverse image lookups on the case badge. Nothing came up. My guess is the PC was sold as a package and that badge was the logo of the reseller / store.

Hi, my name is Carl and I work for Premenos. I want my PC back, they won't buy me a newer one! LOL Great video.

I'm not so sure you should plug that into an mda card, I believe there is an incompatible voltage that will damage the monitor. Cga is fine though.

an IBM PC-AT 5170 was the first PC I ever used - from memory the PSU on a least some of them required a load to work - if no hard drive was fitted there was a very large resistor that had to be connected and was screwed to the case

Nice! I need to look for 2 CRTs. I need a decent VGA 15" to replace my Sony 17" Trinitron from the late 90s. The blue is not working. Is there anywhere in the local area that fixes these? I am not far from Concord so nice to find another local. A 1084S-D would be nice to find too. I loaned my 1084 to someone years ago and when I got it back it had a chip in the screen which is not fun to look at since it was perfect. Oh well. Keep up the good work.

Nice Haul!
I used to restore IBM boards almost full-time awhile back, still have about 100 in storage.
I build converters from ATmega32U4 promicros to convert the model F keyboards to USB, XT protocol won't translate to PS/2 natively. However the model F/AT will.

It wasn't uncommon for 3rd parties to re-badge computers or keyboards if they were provided with an accessory card OR sold for Industrial usage. You can find something similar with Model M's provided to GE for medical facilities, Postal agents or airports.

The 9th chip would just be for parity correct? So should work

I look forward to your channel posts. They are a highlight. Can we get some footage of you installing the lights?

So, there was serious bug-bashing. ;-)

I had almost the exact "Clone" as my first PC, it was identical down to the floppy drive, (I later added a 3.5" 1.44MB and my first 3 button serial mouse, as one of my first ever PC upgrade experiances) Sans the logo, mine was from a goverment contractor from the Military base in Kansas City Missouri. An 8086-10Mhz, 640K RAM, with a genuine IBM CGA/EGA display adapter and a 40MB RLL drive running MS-DOS 3.3 with Direct Access 5, I later upgraded it to Windows 3.0, a Soundblaster 16 clone, and a 4MB EMS Card. (I later transplanted all these upgrades to a newer 286-12MHz in an identical case. Witch was later upgraded with a 486-66 motherboard, ect. and so on....lol)

So you have a e-waste center that actually has interesting equipment? The one year I had a sticker for the "transfer station" here, there never was much more than crap TVs and maybe some broken office equipment.

Ans yes, you can swap those keyboard SDL cables around. In fact, I have an aftermarket SDL-to-USB cable for the 1989 Model-M I use on my work computer.

The chips on the controller card you identified as "Western Digital". Those are in fact WDC - Western Design Center

You should really check all of the PSU’s for rifa’s, before connecting them to the power grid. They need to be replaced to not become a fire hazard or even just a smelly inconvenience.

As for the 5170 PSU, it’ll need a lot more load, before it’ll start doing anything. :)

Also, please check every voltage line of the motherboard, without the PSU connected. There could very well be a (few) tantalum(s) that has (or have) gone shorted.

Great find! $35.— is practically nothing!

I am looking for a 5154 for three years now and never had any luck, no matter how much money I would be willing to pay. They are just pure unobtanium here in Germany. Model M's are expensive but readily available. IBM 5153 monitors command like 500 $. And a 5154 is not available and if you have a million $.
