How to Export Wordpress Media Library

Export entire wordpress media library of images for blog website. Downloading media library from wordpress or downloading images from media library becomes essential when you need to move website to another web host or when you need to download site backup. But may be, your media library size is huge that can not be downloaded via backup plugin!

Backup plugins try to bundle together everything including whole media library. What if media library size is huge? In that case it makes sense to download media library and wordpress files separately. Few backup plugins allow you to download media library separately but I have seen them fail many times.

So here is how you can download images from media library or download full media library from wordpress. You can use WordPress export tool. But it provides XML file containing URLs. Not the image files. Next one is File Manager. Use any file manager. for example, 'WP File Manager'. You can explore wordpress file system from there. Open wp content folder and download 'uploads' folder.

You can also use FTP or Cpanel control panel. If you have Cpanel, go to file manager area, open your website directory, open wp cpntent folder and there will be 'uploads' folder. You can zip full folder and download the zip file. Alternatively you can use a plugin called, 'Media Library File Download' or 'Export Media Library' plugin. Alternatively you can also use full site backup plugin such as 'duplicator' that also downloads media library. Create backup, download and extract and there are media library contents. So, this is how you can download media library from wordpress in different ways.
