It's heavier because of transformers dude. Have you never had a tube power amp? They will be class A or class AB. Some can switch mode. Unless they're OTL design they will have big output transformers. OTL is Output Transformerless.

110/115V into 220V is no problem. 220V into 110/115V is when you get smoke & sparks.
