Modern cell phones use many different microwave frequencies in a wide spectrum from wifi to 5G. A microwave only uses one specific spectrum so most manufacturers only rate it to block that spectrum. Anything higher in frequency is not going to be blocked. So this test is not going to work unless the microwave manufacturer went all out on expense and made it an actual faraday cage. The probably didn't do that for your $40 walmart microwave.

I don't know if the phone test would really preclude leakage ....I mean it sounds logical but I would not bet my health on it! Another thing you can do is take a small florescent light bulb the smaller the better and pass it around the door edges when using your microwave (do not turn on empty microwave at least put some water in cup or bowl first!) ) if leaking radiation anywhere around the door it will try to or might even fully light the tube ! Has to be a FLOURESCENT bulb and not a large one! Best ones seem to be from little desktop lamp We had heavy duty commercial microwaves where I worked and several times for fun we put florescent tubes IN the microwave to amaze others how the tubes lit up fully ....Note I would not do THAT with any microwave oven you care about ...just saying it absolutely DOES work

That doesn’t test for leaks at all. You need a proper microwave leak detector that shows actual levels all around the door seal area. The standard is that it shouldn’t exceed 5 mW/cm2 at approximately 2 inches (5 cm) from the oven.

Great way to test the Faraday cage on your MW oven. If you are really particular, do another test with 2.4Ghz wifi which is the frequency used by the oven.

I am thinking it might even be a better test to call from the phone IN the microwave ..lay phone down in microwave with the number.punched in the phone number and at the last second hit send and close the door...NOW see if it connects to the phone outside! Higher output on the sending phone than from the cell tower?

This will not work phones use diferent frequencies than microwaves. But Bluetooth uses the same frequency so if you want to test it use bluetooth speakers or headphones with music and if the sound doenst stop its because you have a leak.

When I unplug my microwave I have cellular data and phone service works when I plug it in not even running it my cellular data stops and my phone service stops

In a microwave oven the microwave is produced outside the cooking chamber so even if the radiation do not leak from the chamber, radiation may be leaking from where it is produced before it is guided into the cooking chamber. So this test is stupid.
