You know, rally is kind of an enigma in our modern world. At it's basis, rally can be summarized as "go as fast as you possibly can from point A to point B, on potentially dangerous, winding, tight roads, and on unpredictable surfaces in unpredictable conditions." Without it's storied history and countless contributions to every automobile currently being manufactured on the planet, and if rally never managed to come to exist, can you imagine trying to pitch the concept to any modern racing safety organization? Rally is the cigarettes and whiskey of the racing world, it's a habit grandfathered in by everyone still too enamored with the glory days, when everyone truly and absolutely believed the trope of "what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger." Somehow rally continues to exist in a world filled with uptight suits and hand-holders, and it truly is glorious.

When I was little, say about 30+ years ago, I was lucky to have a european rally championship race going through my village in Greece. Not only that, but also a service park!
We used to watch the special stages that were practically at walking distance, man the sounds the smells and the peppering with gravel! 😃
Needless to say we were bitten hard and at a tender age!
I am now contemplating my last new pure gasoline car purchase, while they still make them. No traction batteries. Before we know it we will be driven around in battery boxes making electric forklift sounds. With a GPS of course, you go over the speed limit and you get the ticket on your phone...
I wish they would bring back the homologation specials, that's how we got some legendary production cars. The way things are going, just a dream, I know.

I used to watch rally videos and seeing them wreck I always felt indifferent. But after I got into my first wreck last week it’s so much more terrifying lol. Every wreck sinks my heart.
