I have sold off and on mostly ebay for 26 years. I have sold while working at other full time "real" jobs and I have sold while unemployed. Now my husband and I are retired, and I am reselling full time mostly as an excuse to get out of the house. I don't make tons of money, but it keeps me busy, it gets us out to garage sales and auctions and keeps us moving. I am 63 and my husband is 74. The money is a nice bump to our income, and I don't know what I would be doing otherwise. Sitting around getting fatter probably. I find that when I am not selling, I miss the garage selling part of it. Digging through boxes and finding other people's treasures to me is fun and exciting. Talking to people and learning about the weird things I find are a big part of it too. I follow you because I see the passion for digging and searching for treasure in your videos over the other Tubers who are all about scheduling and structure and business planning.

Recently divorced, went from being a stay at home dad and extremely part time reseller to now where I'm working roughly thirty hours including all aspects of it. I had to be able to take care of myself and my two little children. I thank you and the couple other resellers I watch regularly have help me tremendously. I could never thank you guys enough for making it possible for me to do what you guys do and have a lot of free time for my kids. I love watching your videos, and again thank you for so much knowledge.

2 reason why you are not a fulltime reseller, 1) you haven't figured out yet that you have to work really hard all the time, like 7 days a week. 2) you like the idea of being a fulltime reseller because of the freedom it can provide but you don't really have the drive or motivation to work that hard. You don't mind being told what to do. A Boss is a Boss in any position, and that generally doesn't work well in cooperate jobs. My Bosses didn't like me telling them what to do, but I am the boss and they had a silly title. You need to be a self starter, disciplined and hard working to be a fulltime reseller, most people are none of these things. If you are okay with working for someone else you will, if you are not, you wont. Those that wont, can be fulltime resellers, those that can, will probably end up working for someone again at some point.

Ebay has been dead all summer. Shipping rates killing online sales.

Health insurance is a big concern in making the decision to leave a job. My husband works and we are covered, so for me to be a full time reseller was an easy decision. I did it for years part-time while homeschooling my kids. Now the youngest has entered college, but I am still his chauffeur. Once he starts driving, I will be free to ramp up the business. I always have going back to work for the State of Texas as a backup, but only if absolutely necessary. I LOVE reselling and the freedom it provides.

My dad passed and I needed to get comfortable with selling things to start selling his things.
I started in 2019.
2024 I lost my job (worker comp injury)
It's hard to list things.
I have ALOT ALOT ALOT of things

Reselling for a living is glamorized but I appreciate your practical take. I’ve been reselling for 8-9 years, successfully, as well as running my own business. I think personal finance, having no debt, having your house paid off or 1-2 years worth of living expenses saved up would provide a “safe” runway to try it for most.

I absolutely agree sourcing at garage sales looking for the next great item is so much fun and usually the cheapest way to get great items!

I'm just a hobbyist when it comes to eBay. But I can tell you why people go back to work. It's because there's less responsibility and things to do. As a business owner, there's so much to it. Punching a clock and taking home the bread is way less responsibility. Overhead can be a killer as well, depending on how deep you get. So, having a job frees up more time. By the way, Kevin I myself am a retired high-school auto shop teacher. Keep up the great work 👍

I retired from the USAF and I'm also on Social Security - I started my reselling business to provide some additional income - My wife is disabled but has an eye for valuable things. We have been reselling for about 2 months. Our sells are growing, but nothing to crow about.

I would not recommend reselling unless you have other income because the economy is getting worse, and inflation is destroying people ability to buy! Ironically trying to keep up my standard of living with inflation has forcing me into reselling!

I worked full time and sold on the weekends at the flea market, when I used to resell, got disabled at 57. Reselling has always been in my blood, like my mom 😊

I have been a hobbyist for 20 years but this is the year I am trying to make it part time. I was able to quit my side hustles of doordash and instacart shopping to do part time reselling. My husband works full time. He is supportive and helping me build my business

I'm full time reselling and my sales are up 28.6% this year. I've heard of a lot of people having to find part-time jobs in the reselling world. The main reason is items are not moving fast enough and not selling for as much anymore. Most of those people started about 4years ago when online shopping reached an artificial peak. The growth was not natural but forced. Now that mostly everything has returned to normal it's going to take a lot more hard work to make it.

I'm a full-time reseller (been selling for 2 years now) after retiring from teaching last year. I work about 30 to 40 hours a week, and I'm having my best month ever with almost 5k net this month. I have 1400 or so listings. My avg ASP is $45 right now, and I live in a place that doesn't have a ton of thrift stores. My ROI is at least 5 times what i sepnd after all expenses. I mostly shop yard sales, 2 thrift stores, and some estate sales. Business is great right now. Not sure whether it will continue, but I'm hopeful. Thankfully, I have my retirement pension, so the pressure is off.

The bubble isn't bursting, the sellers are. Buyers are looking cheap, cheap, and reasonable shipping. Most of my sales are $15-$20 plus shipping. Hard to find bargains any more at my Goodwill so I quit going there. Finding better quality at garage sales.

I’m a hobbyist seller. I plan on retiring at the end of the year. I don’t need the income to live but I would like it to pay for my pre-65 insurance premiums for 1.5 years before Medicare kicks in. My husband is 7 years older than me. He is 70 and has been retired for 5 years. Who ever knows our future but I don’t want to go 2 more years!

I’ve been a part time seller since 04 I do it for extra income. It seems a lot more ppl are doing it these days and have made it very competitive with tight margins for me to do it full time
