What makes BIRD STRIKES so dangerous?

Even today there is an aerodynamic phenomenon that is horrifying to most of airplane pilots; the compressor stall. This phenomenon can be triggered by a simple incident such as a bird strike. A compressor stall can lead to a total loss of engine thrust, severe vibrations and loud bangs in the engine, it can even have a catastrophic effect such as complete engine failure. Let’s see what causes compressor stall and how to avoid it.

Dear viewers, research work of this video has been one of the most difficult one. It consumed all my time of this month. Here are the references I used for the script production. I hope, we explained the compressor stall in a simple manner without missing the details of its physics.
1)Jet Engines - Fundamental of theory, design and operation by Klaus Kunecke ; pages 106-114
2)Rotating stall and surge ; A.H Stenning, Department of mechanical engineering and mechanics, Lehigh University; 1980 ASME

No American Bald Eagles were harmed in the making of this video.

In bird school, this incident is referred to as a plane strike- and why it is so dangerous.

I'm a pilot this video is really well put and it clearly states why bird strikes are really dangerous for us and our passengers. Good job Lesics.

Imagine the confusion if both pilots were named Serge.

so... riddle me this, why isn't a guard able to be put IN front of the engine so that objects/ obstructions get deflected out? is it a cost issue? an efficacy issue? is it a increased risk? surely someone has to have already asked this question.

I'm a pilot. I compliment you on a good animation and a good explanation of the basic points of a complicated topic. I especially enjoyed the animation though, keep up the good work!

I actually though an impact with a bird would bend or shatter turbine blades, and thats why engines would fail. Really interresting to see why it actually happens! :)

Lots of hard work and research paid off through this video. One of the best engineering videos and this is a real world problem that occurs today. Thanks guys

I lived under the southern approaches for Memphis International when I was younger. A Delta plane had a compressor surge over my neighborhood back in the early 2000s. It sounds like bombs going off outside.

perfect understanding Lesics, proud on you, I am a gas turbine operator, we face this type of issue sometimes due to bleed valve malfunctions.

Technology has improved all these years and I hope there should have been a solution to bird strikes to jet engine. When this happen, it's not like there's an alternative, bird strikes, engine became faulty and people's lives are in danger.
