UC Davis Aquaculture brings you salmon spawning season at the State of California Fish and Wildlife's Nimbus Fish hatchery at Folsom Dam, in Rancho Cordova California. These are Chinook Salmon also known as King Salmon. Chinook Salmon are Pacific Salmon which are returning to the hatchery to spawn and complete their life cycle. The new fish ladder is fully operational and the staff at the fish hatchery are working hard for salmon conservation aquaculture in the American River.

I seriously hope there is a fish fry at the end of the day... i am thankful this type of resource preservation/protection is happening.

Why do they kill the fish though. I always see them push on the belly for it to come out. First time seeing the fish get cut

This happens all the time with dead animals, they are not alive, their muscle reflexes are

It's something to do with the muscles

I think it’s messed up how the salmon is still alive while they’re doing this. You can see the fish’s find twitching showing that it’s knocked out.
